Rishikesh tour and travel

After entire day of working in office, it was the time to pick up our luggage and leave the office as the bus had arrived outside. Close to the office, where buses were waiting, was a South Indian restaurant, a good one, where we went to have our dinner. After delicious South Indian dinner, we boarded the bus and took our seats.

Our travel began with us singing songs in full of our voices. It was beginning April of 2011 and we were on official tour from Delhi to Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. Refreshments were available with liquor bottles in bags for those who drink. For non-drinkers like me, cold drinks were the alternative. In no time everyone was in mood and in some more time most of us were asleep.

As we woke up, it was dawn, and we were some where amidst the hills of Uttarakhand. Bus stopped and we got out for toilet etc. and saw the night view picturesque hills all around. Then, We got in the bus again for a long up-down drive in the hills. We slept again for some time. It was sun now when bus stopped and we got down to go towards Rishikesh sand beach resort down the hill on foot.

Single males, like me, had just a laptop bag as luggage. So, I would like to help a single female with her heavy suitcase. Married couples took care of their luggage and one another. Tiring walk in the morning just after a night of travel, and we reached down the Rishikesh camp riverside. First thing first, we would take our tents, keep our luggage in place and do daily routine before the real adventure begins.

However, some people started playing Volleyball just the moment we reached. After breakfast, we played in the river amidst slippery stones for some time and got wet in cold water, then changed cloths in tents. We had our lunch then and the adventure began with rock-climbing. We started one by one and put on helmet, safety jacket fixed with ropes. Not everyone but a few did the rock climbing to the top in first attempt.

Real adventure begins

In my first attempt, I slipped in the midway of the hill and asked the helper to loose the rope and get me down. In my second attempt, I reached the top in one go without a slip. We came back down the hill by easier route as directed. This was the only adventure we had on first day. Rest of the day, there were some easy team-spirit games, which I played without having much interest.

We also had fun in the sand and clicked some pics. After sunset, more fun was waiting with bonfire dance and DJ music. So, those who drank were already inebriated and those who didn’t were also tipsy, having cold drink bottles in hands. The show went on after dinner till midnight. Then we went to our tents to have some sleep after an exhaustion of a night and a day.

The next day after breakfast was the time of real adventure and that started with river rafting as we signed the documents that said, we ourselves are responsible for our lives. Then we put on life jackets to make sure we are going to be fine. As we took our position in the boat and it moved ahead in the river, lifeguard asked us go into to water first to be familiar of it. We did it and got wet in totally in icy water.

Total fun camping

Since then, I went into the water many times for surfing, and once even moved ahead to another boat and hid myself behind it. Then, I came in front after realizing that my colleagues were curious and worried about me. The lifeguard threw a rope towards me which I held and he pulled me towards the boat.

Two healthy female colleagues pulled me up in the boat. The lifeguard said then, “now don’t let him go in water again”. Crossing all strong waves with full courage and strength, we reached another bank. A few girls looked very afraid then as that was not an easy task but a risky adventure. We went back to tents through a different route, this time an easy one.

Had our lunch before collecting our luggage and walking towards the road uphill. Got in the bus, took our seats before the bus started for Delhi. After those hilly ups and downs, we were on the city road, leaving back Uttarakhand. We found ourselves stuck in traffic of a busy road. We did pass some time with singing and entertaining each other.

Finally, we reached Delhi late in night and a few had to stay in office while we moved towards our home, taking some conveyance. I needed some sleep at my flat as I knew next day is office day. Something that I and many others didn’t know was that after such big fun during an official tour, your work pressure in the company also gets bigger. So, be ready for that too.
